Transcription

Record and save meeting transcripts with speaker attribution.

Transcription

Transcription captures all spoken words during a meeting and saves them as text, with speaker attribution.

Enabling Transcription

Transcription starts automatically when a moderator joins; the More menu shows Stop transcription while it's recording. If it's off, a moderator can re-enable it:

  1. Join a meeting as the host or a moderator (transcription is moderator-only)
  2. Open the More menu in the control bar
  3. Click Start transcription — speech is captured and attributed to each speaker
  4. Click Stop transcription in the same menu to end it

How Transcription Works

  • Speech is captured in real-time from all participants
  • Each line is attributed to the speaker: Speaker Name: text of speech
  • Words accumulate in a local buffer during the session
  • When you stop transcription, the full transcript is saved as a message in the meeting chat with a special "transcription" type
  • The transcript is visible in the chat and persists after the meeting ends

Viewing Transcriptions

Transcriptions saved in the chat can be displayed in three modes:

ModeDescription
CollapsedShows a summary with an expand button
ExpandedShows the full transcript
HiddenHides transcription messages in the chat

You change the transcription display mode from the chat's Display settings menu (the gear icon in the chat header) — not from the Settings page. The choice is stored locally in the browser.

Use Cases

  • Meeting minutes — Capture everything said for reference
  • Compliance — Keep records of discussions for regulatory purposes
  • Absent participants — Share the transcript with people who couldn't attend
  • Review — Go back and review specific parts of the discussion

Important Notes

  • Transcription captures the translated text if translation is active
  • The quality of transcription depends on audio quality — use a good microphone and minimize background noise
  • Long meetings produce large transcripts — they're stored as chat messages and don't count toward your storage quota separately
  • Only the host or moderators can start/stop transcription; regular participants don't see the toggle
  • Each transcription session creates a separate message in the chat

Default Setting

Transcription is on by default when a moderator joins a meeting — they see Stop transcription in the More menu and can disable it for that call. The state is per-conference (not persisted across calls).

  • Meeting Controls — Find the transcription toggle in the More menu
  • Chat — Where transcriptions are saved as messages
