Do I have to ask for a translation?

No. Translation happens as the message is delivered, so it arrives already readable in your language.

What if someone is offline when the message is sent?

Their language is still included when the message is translated. They receive the translation when they reconnect — nothing is skipped because they weren't there.

How do I choose my language?

From the sidebar account menu: pick “Translation Language” and choose one. By default it follows your interface language. That choice also sets your in-meeting voice translation.

Is there a limit on how much gets translated?

Chat translation is unlimited on Pro, Business, and Enterprise. The free Basic plan includes 10,000 words per rolling 30-day window, counted against the meeting host.

Is anything not translated?

File names and captions stay as written, and text inside images isn't touched — only the message text itself is translated.

Does the chat survive the meeting?

Yes. A meeting persists as a channel: the thread, files, shared notes, pins, and recaps stay with it, and every member keeps reading the entire history in their own language. A channel whose whole history each member reads in their own language is the point — the conversation doesn't reset when the call ends.
